🧾 You must achieve a gross L1R5 aggregate score of 20 points or better.

• L1 = First Language (usually English or Higher Mother Tongue)

• R5 = Five Relevant subjects (a mix of Humanities, Mathematics, Science and other subjects)

• A lower L1R5 score is better (e.g., 7 is stronger than 15).

✔ Some JCs offer extra bonus points for certain programmes (e.g., Language Elective Programmes)

These bonus points are subtracted from your gross L1R5 score to compute your net L1R5 for postings.

To qualify academically for JC admission:

📌 English Language — must be passed (typically C6 or better)

📌 Mathematics — a passing grade required

📌 Mother Tongue — a pass is typically needed (depends on the college’s requirement)

If you don’t meet the minimum subject pass grade, some colleges may offer conditional admission — but you will need to retake the subject in JC Year 1 and pass it to continue.

From the 2028 JAE intake onwards, the admission calculation is planned to switch from L1R5 (6 subjects) to L1R4 (5 subjects), requiring an L1R4 gross aggregate score of 16 points or better for JC admission. However, this does not apply for JAE2026 yet — you’ll still use the L1R5 system for your 2026 application.
